20+ years' experience in coaching, mentoring, adult education and wellbeing strategy Â
Many capable women reach midlife and notice something shifting.
Confidence can feel different.
Energy changes.
Priorities begin to rearrange themselves.
Sometimes this coincides with perimenopause.
Sometimes it’s career, family, or identity transitions.
Often it’s simply the realisation that the next stage of life deserves more attention and intention.
Coaching creates a thoughtful space to pause, reflect, and decide what comes next.
AÂ structured conversation that helps you see more clearly.
How the process works
Coaching usually unfolds in three simple stages.
Step 1
Discovery conversation
A free 20-minute call to explore whether coaching would be helpful.
Step 2
Coaching sessions
Structured 50-minute conversations guided by you. Most coaching sessions take place online. For Brisbane-based clients who prefer meeting in person, a limited number of sessions can be arranged through our professional partners, Growth Psychology in Annerley.
Step 3
Integration
Reflection between sessions is where the real work happens and insights start forming real change.
What we work on togetherÂ
Coaching is different for every client. I hold the process, but we follow what matters most to you, in your situation. Some clients arrive with a clear question. Others arrive with a sense that something needs attention but aren’t yet sure what it is.
This is a space built entirely around you: your history, your circumstances, your particular version of the transition you're working through.
Understanding the transition
- What's actually happening psychologically and neurologically during midlife and perimenopause, and why that matters for how you see yourself right now
- What's changing:Â what's shifting, what's ending, and what's becoming possible
Understanding self
- Your relationship with your thoughts about midlife and perimenopause and any self-doubt, or uncertainty
- Developing psychological flexibility: learning to move with uncertainty rather than being stopped by itÂ
Clarifying direction
- Values and character strengths: who you are and what matters most at this life stage
- Identity shifts and changing priorities
- Relationship changes: shifting dynamics, evolving boundaries and what you need from the people around you
 Turning insight into action
- Building a grounded sense of who you are becoming, and a compelling vision of what comes next
- Translating reflection into practical next steps, leaving each session with something concrete to take into your life.
The approach draws on applied positive psychology, ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), narrative coaching approaches, and contemporary neuroscience. It is non-clinical; not therapy, not diagnosis. The focus is on reflection, sense-making, and translating insight into action.
What coaching often looks like
Coaching doesn’t give you answers.
It helps you to create a clearer mind, find the right questions amongst the noise, and gives you space to think deeply. Without interruption.

Meet your coach: Berni Cooper
MAPP, BSocSci Hons (Psychology), SFHEA
Coach | Educator | Applied Positive Psychology Practitioner
Berni Cooper works with people navigating periods of transition, times when familiar ways of thinking no longer quite fit and something new is beginning to take shape.
Her work focuses on helping people make sense of complex internal shifts and move towards practical meaningful change. Rather than offering quick answers, Berni creates a structured space for reflection, helping clients see their situation more clearly and move forward with greater intention.
Berni is also in her early fifties and navigating perimenopause while building Fluxx. The midlife coaching work is therefore shaped not only by psychological research and professional practice, but also by lived experience of the transition it is designed to support.
With more than two decades of experience across applied psychology, adult learning, and wellbeing strategy, she brings both depth and practicality to the coaching process.
Coaching is non-clinical. Berni is not a psychologist and does not provide therapy. Berni collaborates with psychologists and allied professionals where appropriate and maintains clear boundaries between coaching and clinical care. Her work draws on established approaches from:
- Applied positive psychology
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)Â
- Narrative coaching approaches
- Strengths-based practiceÂ
Professional backgroundÂ
- Master of Applied Positive Psychology
- Honours degree in Psychology
- Professional Development Certificate in Executive CoachingÂ
- Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA)
- Member of the Association for Coaching
- Regular ongoing professional development
Berni has authored peer-reviewed publications on wellbeing literacy and regularly presents on psychological wellbeing.
Coaching is for you if:Â
- You're noticing shifts in confidence, motivation, emotional steadiness, or sense of identity
- You want evidence-informed support, not surface-level reassurance
- You're functioning but feel unsettled, and want to understand what's shifting
- You're ready to do some genuine reflection and inner work
- You want practical tools that work in real life, not ideal conditions
Coaching is not for you if: Â
- You are seeking medical advice or clinical treatment
- You are in acute distress and need immediate professional support
- You are looking for a quick solution rather than reflective work
Â
Note: This is not therapy or clinical treatment. If you are experiencing mental health concerns, please seek appropriate support. The Fluxx team works alongside the psychologists at Growth Psychology and can help connect you with clinical support if that would be more helpful at this stage.
Already completed or enrolled in The Midlife Reframe?
Coaching can be a natural next step if you want to go deeper into the questions the program opened up.
The bootcamp provides the psychological frameworks and shared experience of the cohort. Coaching offers a slower, more personalised space to work through your specific situation.
If you are participating in the program, a special coaching offer is available inside the course.
